Love in twisted form
Leaving none a righteous path
Tucks itself to sleep
Lulled by poisoned words
Leading into blurry haze
Tomorrow unknown.

Luck brings reprieval
Eagerly yet lies in wait
A moment fatal
A moment too small
Even for a single thought
Of its betrayal.

An homage to Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita inspired by an unfinished sketch. A quadruple technical haiku with a phonetic and thematic constraint.

Read it out loud, bringing out the first syllable of each line in the first stanza and then following the elision of the last syllable of each line to the first syllable of the next in the second stanza.
